Thanksgiving In Liberia

Image
Hey everyone!!     I hope you all had a happy thanksgiving!! My first big holiday on the mission was great!! Of course it was a little sad not being home with my family but we were busy that day so I didn't have a whole lot of time to think about it!     This week we taught a lot of good lessons and we found some new people who are SOLID!!!     Gratitude is something has been on my mind this week with it being thanksgiving and all. Sometimes I start to feel sorry for myself and I feel like the whole world is against me. But if we take a step back and stop focusing on the bad or the things that are hard in our lives we will see how merciful the Lord has been to us. Some days I say,  "Why did the Lord send me to Liberia?" Or "These people they don't listen and they stink." But as I've tried to take a step back and see my life from a distance I realize that I'm INCREDIBLY blessed. I might not have some of the nice things that other missionaries have, bu...

Hey everyone!!     I hope that you all had a great week!! For me and Elder Houston we had a fun week. We taught lots of lessons and had some fun experiences!!     This week I was studying about the Restoration. I've realized that my understanding of the Restoration was not very good before my mission. Of course I knew about Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon. But the more I teach others about it I'm coming to understand how important it is. I couldn't imagine living in the Great Apostasy in complete spiritual darkness. It would be terrible! I'm so grateful that the Lord restored his true Gospel and his priesthood back to the earth through the Prophet Joseph Smith. I'm also grateful for the Restoration of temples and of special ordinances. I testify that the true Gospel is on the earth today and that we have the ability to perform all of the life saving ordinances through the power of the priesthood! It states in Preach my Gospel, "the message of the Restoratio...

Mark Kollie's Baptism

Image
Hey everyone!!     Well I didn't start writing today's letter until Monday morning because I forgot and I'm getting to the point where I hate to write these letters!! Hahah     Anyway we had a great week. We found some new people and we were able to have a baptism!! We were able to baptize Mark Kollie!! He was one of those people who the Lord has prepared to hear his Gospel!! He is so strong, the man was paying his tithing before he even became a member!! Haha Elder Houston was able to be John the Baptist so it was great to see him be able to baptize for the first time!      Hope everyone is doing well! I would love to hear from you so don't be afraid to reach out!! Love ya!!     Elder Hiatt

Not much else to report on.      Thursday- We had district council today and since I'm the new District President I was asked to make the agenda and conduct so that was fun haha! Tuesday- Well I said goodbye to Elder Yemoh and Elder Mukonda at 5 this morning!! It was hard to say goodbye! Me and Elder Shakespear hung out until his new companion arrived. His new companion is Elder Parker and he is from Idaho! He is a stud and I really like him. We spent the day in their area because I still don't have a companion!!      Tuesday-Thursday- We went back and forth between my area and Elder Shakespear and Parkers area. We taught several lessons and I'm grateful I was able to spend a few days with them. I was able to see how two experienced missionaries teach and how they plan and go about their work. So I'm grateful for the things I learned from them.     Friday- NOW THIS IS WHERE IT GETS RIDICULOUS. Today was the day all the new trainees were getting sent to their areas. So my new companion showed up today. So my new trainee is ELDER HOUSTON FROM KANAB UTAH!!!!! Elder Houston and Elder Shakespear were best friends in high school and I played b...
