Hey everyone,
A lot has happened in the last few weeks so I'll give you an update.
I got transferred after 6 months on the old road. I am grateful that I left but I'm really missing the friends I left behind. Some of my most spiritual experiences were in Old Road and I'm grateful that I got to serve there.
I'm now serving in the Gardnersville Zone in an area called Chocolate City. Last week was my first week in the area and it's a wonderful area with wonderful people. It's a very big area though and at least for me it's very confusing so hopefully as time goes on I'll adjust and learn the area. The apartment is also really nice so that's a bonus! My new companion is Elder Joemende from Sierra Leone and he is such a stud. I've already learned a lot from him.
On Thursday night we were walking back from our area and it was after dark and out of nowhere it started to POUR RAIN! I know I've already told you guys about how the rain in Liberia is ridiculous but Thursday it was on a whole new level. To make matters worse my new umbrella is kinda small so when the wind started to blow the rain was getting all over me and when I got home I looked like I just got out of a swimming pool haha!
This week in my personal study I've been reading the book of Mosiah in the Book of Mormon and it's quickly becoming one of my favorite books. Something that stood out to me was when the Lamanites came to attack King Noah's people.
Wicked king Noah told his people to run into the wilderness. As they were running the women and the children fell behind and were being killed by the lamanites. King Noah told the men to leave their wives and children, some of them did but some of them chose to stay behind and support their families. I was really touched by the love that these men had for their families. It reminded me of the love Christ has for us. People in our lives might leave us and there may be times where we feel like we're all alone. But the Savior just like the men in the story will come to our rescue. And something else this story taught me is that the most important thing we can do in this life is be there for someone who is in need. Even if it puts our lives or situation in jeopardy. We must have charity for others and help them even when it's not convenient for us. That is what Jesus Christ did for us. So let's try and follow His example.
Hope you are all doing great! I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!! Love ya
Elder Hiatt
