First Transfer And Vaccinations
Monday- Well I usually don't write about P-days but last week's p day was a blast! Since Elder Bennett is going home he wanted to have one last big zone party. So we had the whole zone over and we had the best food ever!! Haha we had burgers, cassava, and the BEST pineapple I've ever had!! It was a great day!!
Tuesday- Well today started off really solid!! Our first lesson was with a lady named Love! We contacted her last week and weren't really sure about how we felt about her. But with today's lesson I'm very optimistic about her. Also one of her friends named Mercy joined us and she seemed very interested so that was great!! After that we taught more lessons! That night we got home and Elder Bennett was making a pot of white country gravy. I almost cried haha! Anytime I eat American food my day gets 100 times better haha!
Wednesday- Well today was vaccination day! Luckily I got mine before I left home but our mission President encouraged all of the missionaries to get it. So me and Elder Yemoh and 4 other missionaries got in a taxi and headed to a place called Omega junction. Once again it was a very uncomfortable ride! There were 4 guys in the back and 2 were in the passenger seat! Haha after the other missionaries got their vaccines we walked, I swear, 3 miles to Paynesville! We stopped in at a cobo shop and had sleepy beans for lunch! Sleepy beans are probably my favorite Liberian food! I also got to see Elder Bingham today. He's from Mesquite and we played basketball against each other. His family helped me a lot as I prepared to come to Liberia so it was really fun to talk with him. After our ride back we taught 4 lessons. Also we have a Book of Mormon class on Wednesdays. Usually nobody shows up so me and Elder Yemoh stayed late at a teaching appointment. As we walked into the class Love and Mercy were there!!!!! Luckily Elder Bennett and Mukonda decided to come! It was so great to see them there and I feel like they're really enjoying learning about the gospel of Jesus Christ. It's awesome to see!
Thursday- Well today started out kind of boring. Elder Yemoh was sick from the vaccine so we stayed in the house till around 2. I learned that it's much better to get out and work then sit around the apartment haha! Elder Yemoh decided it was time to go out so we went and visited Jenneh Cooper and her daughter Deborah. They're super nice people and we're really starting to become friends with them so hopefully we can continue to bring them along! After that we went and taught Dollar. He is doing well and progressing but after that Elder Yemoh started to feel a little sick so we stayed and talked with Dollar for like 2 1/2 hours haha! He had so many questions about the U.S and he had me sing the whole national anthem for him! I personally think I could sing in the tabernacle choir hahah! After that we went back to sister Jenneh Cooper's house and she made us dinner. They have this fruit here called breadfruit. It grows in a tree and looks like a huge pear. I tried some and it tasted just like a potato!! It even had the same texture. It was so strange but it was actually pretty tasty!!
Friday- Well Elder Bennett left us today, so sad to see him go! Since transfers aren't till Monday Elder Mukonda will be coming with me and Elder Yemoh and we will be a trio!! We had an AWESOME day today!! We taught 6 lessons but they were all so powerful and the people we are teaching are really feeling the spirit and learning! And even me I feel now a transfer into my mission that my ability to teach has come a long way!! I feel comfortable teaching all the principles and I feel that the spirit is really starting to guide me as I teach which is a huge blessing. Being patient has always been hard for me. Whenever I try something new I expect myself to excel at it right from the beginning. But I'm learning that life doesn't work that way. We have to allow ourselves time to adjust and to learn. So for any of you who are new missionaries or who are back home starting something new. BE PATIENT!! I know that if we pray and ask for Heavenly Fathers help it will come! But it won't always come right away. So have faith and keep working! Eventually you will find success!!
Saturday- Today started out TOUGH!! We had a great day planned but sadly our first 4 lessons didn't show so we had nothing to do for hours! We went looking and found a few new people and scheduled some lessons for next week so our morning wasn't a complete waste haha! After that our day got super busy. We taught Princess and she'll get baptized next week so that'll be great! Then we visited the Carters. After that we taught Dollar. This was an AWESOME lesson. We ended up changing our whole lesson plan and we focused on the BOM with him. We answered his questions and we bore our testimony of the BOM and Dollar couldn't stop smiling. The spirit was so strong and it was awesome to see him feel the spirit and come to know that the BOM is true!! So awesome! After that we taught one of my favorite families, the Jusu family. We taught the plan of Salvation and they loved it! So hopefully things continue to progress with them.
Sunday- Church was fantastic today!! The talks were so wonderful. We had 9 investigators come so that was awesome!!! After church We went and visited a few people and had dinner at Sister Bondos! (She is the best cook in kakata) hahah after that we taught Morris Flomo. Morris is such a great guy and he loves our Heavenly Father and is always trying to do what's right. He is a great role model for me. We put him on date for the 25th! So we'll have 2 or 3 baptisms that day and then we got Princess back on date for this coming Saturday so I'm excited for that!!
Well I've been in the field for a full transfer and I can hardly believe it's been that long!! Liberia is starting to feel like home and I'm so grateful for that! I hope you guys are doing well! I know our Heavenly Father is watching over you and he loves you more than you will ever know. Have a great week!!
