First Full Week In Liberia!
Hey everyone!!
Well my first full week of being a Missionary in the field has come and gone. It flew by and it's also crazy to think that I've already been a Missionary for over a month! I've really enjoyed being a Missionary and I've already seen and experienced things that have strengthened my testimony so much!!
Luckily here in Liberia the people are very welcoming and love to talk about the gospel. So we teach all day every day which is such a blessing. I just want to share a little experience I had in one of our appointments the other day. We are teaching a girl named Rachel and she has never really had much to do with religion of any kind. So when we met her on the street the other day she invited us to her house to teach her! While we were teaching the first half of the first lesson the spirit came into my heart and I could feel God's love for Rachel and I knew that what we were doing in teaching her about Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ's love for her was exactly what she needed!! I'm so grateful that we have a Heavenly Father who loves us unconditionally!
We had a crazy experience yesterday after church. We went out to visit our investigators and as we were walking to one of their homes we saw a big crowd of people surrounding this old run down church! We saw our investigator there and we called her over to see what was going on. She told us that during the night a group of girls were playing by the hospital and one of these girls was a "witch" while they were playing. This girl started to have a fight with a holy spirit in her mind!! Somehow they were fighting with fire and the fight got so bad that the fire literally came to life and started the hospital on fire. Now it really is true that the hospital started on fire but all these people around 250 of them believed this 7 year old girl did it with her mind!!!! And apparently they were all surrounding the church because she was in there "confessing her sins." And all these people were gathered around so they could "beat her and kill her" . It was the strangest thing I have ever seen. Eventually this girl got in the back of this jeep and the jeep sped away down the road and I swear all 250 people SPRINTED after the car so they could see this "witch." It was so crazy to see that these people really believed that was true!!!
I finally tried some of the food here! I've had chicken feet and fish. The fish is so weird they take the whole fish and cook it until it is hard and chewy then throw the whole thing in a bowl with rice and other meat that i don't don't want to know where it comes from! Haha and then they drizzle what they call "soup" on top of it. The soup is usually very spicy and I have to eat slowly or else my mouth will catch on fire! Haha
Anyway, I have enjoyed my first full week here in Liberia and I've experienced many crazy new things! I'm so grateful the Lord sent me to Liberia and I'm so grateful for the people I've been blessed to teach so far!! I know this church is true and that heavenly Father and Jesus Christ love us and are always aware of us. They truly do care about us and want the best for us! I hope you are all doing well! Love you all!!
